India at the Front and Center
Our traditional hair concerns (hair fall, premature graying, dandruff) are specific to our climate and genetics.
Most international haircare brands weren't formulated with Indian conditions and pollution levels in mind. They often build up on the scalp, strip natural oils, or simply don't address the root causes of our most common hair problems.
Sustainable Universe has been mindful of how our conditions are different. Here are a few things we considered.
Cuticle Considered
Fact: Did you know Indian hair has 2–3 more cuticle layers than Western hair?
What We Did: That's why we chose herbs that are essential for deep penetration.
Round Shaft Secret
Fact: Indian hair has the most “circular” cross-section compared to Caucasian or African hair. This makes it structurally stronger, but also heavier.
Impact: You're more prone to “scalp pull” and flat roots.
What We Did: That's why we ensured our shampoo and conditioner leave no residue. The focus is on scalp health to support that extra weight without the use of heavy silicones.
The Porosity Paradox
Fact: Indian hair is naturally high in porosity, meaning it has tiny gaps in the cuticle that let moisture in—but also let it escape just as fast.
Impact: This is why your hair feels frizzy five minutes after stepping outside.
What We Did: Our extract has natural plant slime from herbs like Mehndi, which acts as a biological “plug” to seal those gaps and lock in moisture.
Dew Point Disaster
Fact: In Indian humidity, your hair can absorb up to 30% of its weight in atmospheric water.
Impact: This causes the hair shaft to swell and the cuticles to lift.
What We Did: We got rid of harsh sulfates that lift the cuticle even further. We use Reetha (Soapnut), which has a naturally low pH, keeping the cuticle “closed” and smooth even when the humidity is at 90%.
PM 2.5 vs. Your Scalp
Fact: Urban Indian pollution consists of PM 2.5 (tiny particles) that are 20 times smaller than a human pore.
Impact: They don't just sit on your hair; they “clog” your scalp follicles.
What We Did: Our extract contains Neem and Brahmi, which act as natural chelating agents, binding to these microscopic toxins and washing them away before they can cause “Scalp Oxidative Stress.”
